What to know
A first dental visit is recommended when the first tooth appears and no later than the first birthday. The visit can cover development, brushing, fluoride and habits that affect teeth.
Questions for the dentist
Ask how the office handles anxious children and how treatment decisions are explained. A pediatric dentist may be helpful for particular developmental, behavioral or treatment needs. Availability and insurance must be confirmed with the office.
